Boston Self Help Center Groups

Peer Counseling

Support/ Peer Counseling groups are run by individuals who also have disabilities and have experience in counseling. It is not a therapy group in the sense of having a therapist run the group. It is more of a sharing experience where the peer counselor may share their experience if the discussion warrants it.

Our current peer counseling group has been running quite successfully. We have been meeting at Lesley University in the evenings. We are in the process of opening up the group to new members. If you are interested please send an email expressing your interest.

Self Advocacy

Advocacy training groups may be general or may be specific and develop around a particular issue. Because disabilities can vary so much it is important to learn how to advocate for oneself and others in order to navigate the often confusing and illogical systems that one may encounter when dealing with a disability.

Speaker's Bureau

The staff are available to speak on specific topics relating to disability issues. We maintain a speakers bureau of individuals who are able to address specific issues.
